Ant-Man Will Reportedly Reference Spider-Man

Spider-Man could make his Marvel entrance a lot sooner than we thought… as ‘Ant-Man’ will apparently reference everyone’s favourite webslinger.

According to the Latino Review, the upcoming ‘Ant-Man’ movie will begin to lay the groundwork for Marvel’s first Spider-Man appearance.

“Ant-Man will have the first Spider-Man easer eggs of the MCU,” they revealed. “The Sony/Marvel Spider-Man sharing deal wasn’t announced until early this year, but Ant-Man will start planting the seeds for the character to make his first appearance in Captain America: Civil War as a fully-formed hero without an origin story retread.”

Of course, it makes a lot of sense for Marvel to go down this route. After all, we’ve already seen Peter Parker get two different versions of the Spider-Man origin story so far… do we really need to see it again?

How does this transpire on the big screen? For now, we’ll have to wait and see… but the folks at LR already have some clues.

“We’ve heard an unconfirmed rumor there is ‘lots of’ talk of/references to Spider-Man and OsCorp in the current version of Ant-Man,” they explained. And they go on to speculate that the technological nature of ‘Ant-Man’s villain could be how they introduce OsCorp.

“Corey Stoll’s villainous businessman Darren Cross is attempting to sell the Ant-Man/Yellowjacket weapons technology to other corporations and organizations. The Ten Rings from Iron Man and Roxxon, a Marvel Comics corporation that has been name-dropped in all 3 Iron Man movies, Agents of SHIELD, Agent Carter, Daredevil and a Marvel One Shot. This scene would be an excellent opportunity to introduce OsCorp into MCU.”

Of course, we won’t actually see Marvel’s new Spider-Man on the big screen for some time. But with references to OsCorp and a subtle hint towards things to come, it looks as though we could get a far more subtle lead-in to the new Spider-Man than we have with previous actors.

And I can’t help thinking it’s about time we moved beyond the origin story.

‘Ant-Man’ heads to cinemas on 17 July 2015.
