Pixar Musical On The Way Says Randy Newman

Randy Newman has teased that Pixar Studios might be planning to create and release their very first musical.

The legendary composer, pianist and songwriter made his remarks during an episode of Saturday Night at the Movies, via Film Divider.

Newman admitted that he probably wouldn’t be involved in the musical though, while he also revealed that Lee Unkrich would oversee the film.

Newman announced that Unkrich is “a doing a musical now,” but he failed to reveal any more information on the proposed film.

It was previously announced all the way back in 2012 that Unkrich was working on a Pixar film that was inspired by Dia de los Muertos, otherwise known as the Day of the Dead, a Mexican holiday. However there hasn’t been any new information on this project for several years now.

Newman also explained that the duo had a little bit of a run-in during the production of ‘Toy Story 3’.

Newman remarked that he has “a reputation for being a little trouble,” before he added, “Lee Unkrich isn’t going to use me, I don’t think.”

The musician continued, “Lee Unkrich had ‘Toy Story 3’ temped with my music and it was limiting to me. It was fine, the movie did great and everything. And maybe I’m wrong and if I look back on it I won’t know the difference but it didn’t fit hand in glove the way I would have tried to do so.”

After almost 2 years without a Pixar film, both ‘Inside Out’ and ‘The Good Dinosaur’ will finally bring this sorry period to an end later this year. ‘Inside Out’ will be released on June 19, 2015, with ‘The Good Dinosaur’ following on November 25, 2015.
