Arnold Schwarzenegger Clumsily Scrubs Wife Maria Shriver From Portrait

The unveiling of an official portrait of Arnold Schwarzenegger has been upstaged by, well, a blob.

The former Governor of California was showing off the new official painting of himself to the press this week, but it was what was missing that has become the story – it appears he’s had his wife Maria Shriver scrubbed from the portrait.

And none too subtly, either.

The Austrian Oak sat for the six-foot-tall oil painting back in 2003, and had the Austrian artist Gottfried Helnwein include a picture of his wife’s face on a lapel pin as a romantic gesture.

But staff at the Sacramento statehouse were quick to spot that instead of a lapel pin, there was a large smudge instead, where it appeared she’d been clumsily scrubbed out.

“Whoever touched it up did not do a very good job,” said California Capitol tour guide Richard Granis to the New York Post. “It was softball sized, right there on his left lapel.”

Another staff member said that the ‘splotch’ on his lapel was ‘what makes it especially noticeable’.

Arnie and his wife, a member of the Kennedy family, have been estranged since 2010, when it emerged that he had been having an affair with his housekeeper, Mildred Baena, and fathered an secret love child with her.

Divorce proceedings were then filed, though as yet remain unfinalised.

Reports emerged this week, claiming that Shriver herself had had an affair with Schwarzenegger’s campaign strategist Matthew Dowd, before her husband’s indiscretion had come to light.

Dowd has denied the claims.
