William Hurt Teases A Very Different General Ross In Captain America:Civil War

After his appearance in ‘The Incredible Hulk’ it looks as though William Hurt’s General Thunderbolt Ross is a very different man… at least, by ‘Captain America: Civil War’.

During an interview with IGN, the 65-year-old actor explained that General Ross won’t be the same man we met in the earlier movie.

“I loved playing Ross the first time because I was able to try and create an ego as big as the monster he was chasing,” he said. “And one that was as warped too. [Ross in Civil War] is different because it’s a different style. It’s a more modernized style.”

“What they’ve done is they’ve taken a character who was the Ross from the older film and made a new version,” he added. “This is a much newer Ross. A much different Ross. And I liked that a lot. I haven’t had a lot of time to understand it, but I’m doing the best I can. And they haven’t fired me yet.”

Of course, the last time we saw General Ross was at the very end of ‘The Incredible Hulk’ as the military leader drowned his sorrows after his failed attempts to capture Bruce Banner. But with Tony Stark telling him all about the Avengers Initiative, how would he react?

And what’s he been up to since?

I can’t help thinking that General Ross will play an important part when it comes to the actual Civil War – the conflict between superheroes as the US Government proposes the registration of all superhumans.

After all, General Ross knows all too well the damage that can be caused by a rogue superhero with too much power.

But there are also plenty of rumours and speculation that we could see General Ross transformed in a more obvious way – into the Red Hulk.

Introduced to the comic books in 2008, the Red Hulk is the complete opposite of the Hulk. He’s tactically brilliant, and remains in complete control even after he’s transformed. Also able to emit intense heat from his eyes, the Red Hulk is a rather formidable opponent… and was later revealed to be General Ross – having participated in a presumably successful Super Soldier trial.

Will this be the General Ross we see in ‘Captain America: Civil War’? For now, we’ll have to wait and see. But I can’t help thinking he’ll be more of a political presence than a real foe.

Even if I would like to see him Hulk out on the big screen.

‘Captain America: Civil War’ heads to cinemas on 29 April 2016.
