Female Spider-Man Team-Up Movie Rumoured From Sony

It’s no secret that the ‘Amazing Spider-Man’ franchise has had its detractors of late, but can Sony pull it back from the brink with an all-female Spider-Man spin-off?

“Sony has plans for a female Spidey character to get her own movie,” Badass Digest explains.

“But what if the plans were for all the female Spidey characters to come together in one movie? That’s the premise of the project they’re calling ‘Glass Ceiling’ - a team-up movie that would bring the female Spidey characters together.”

It’s certainly an interesting concept that’s reminiscent of their ‘Sinister Six’ plans but will it ever see the light of day? After all, with the upcoming ‘Amazing Spider-Man 3’ pushed back several years, it seems that Sony isn’t quite as confident in their webslinger’s abilities as we’d hope.

But which female ‘Spider-Man’ characters would make the cut if this movie ever made it to our screens?

“There are not a ton of female superheroes that would be part of the Spider-Man package,” explain BD. “The ones that spring immediately to mind are: The Black Cat, Silver Sable, Spider-Girl and Silk.”

Of course, there’s also the possibility of an appearance from Spider-Woman but it’s unclear whether or not she’s part of the rights that Sony currently owns. Either way, it looks as though there are a few rather cool heroes to join in the fun.

But are they strong enough characters to carry a film?

We’ve already seen the introduction of Felicia Hardy AKA Black Cat in ‘The Amazing Spider-Man 2’ and it’s certainly not a huge leap to see Felicity Jones headlining her own spin-off movie. But will it actually happen?

“It’s one of the ideas that Sony has been kicking around. As I’ve said before, I don’t think Sony even knows what they’re doing, so claiming that this is actually happening is incredibly premature. It’s an idea that’s out there.”

For now, we’ll have to wait and see.
