McKellen is playing the iconic role in new movie ‘Mr Holmes’.

Previously called ‘A Slight Trick of the Mind’, it’s being helmed by ‘Kinsey’ and ‘Twilight’ director Bill Condon, and has an intriguing premise.

Based on a 2005 novel, also called ‘A Slight Trick of the Mind’ and written by Mitch Cullin, it’s set in 1947 and Holmes is in his last days, his memory beginning to fail.

Retired and living in Sussex with a housekeeper (Laura Linney) and his son, who is a rising sleuth himself, he finds he is still haunted by a ‘cold case’ from 50 years previously involving an angry husband and an unstable wife.

There’s no word yet on a release date.
