The photograph, which premiered at Empire, shows the future ‘Fifty Shades of Grey’ star as a neurologist whose latest case would seem to take him a little beyond his standard duties - and possibly into supernatural territory.

According to the official synopsis, ‘The 9th Life of Louis Drax’ - adapted by Max Minghella from the Liz Jensen novel of the same name - joins the nine-year old title character (Aiden Longworth) “when he miraculously survives a near fatal fall.”

Dornan’s character Dr Allan Pascal “finds himself tangled between his professional responsibility and his growing affections for the boy’s mother (Sarah Gadon), a fragile young beauty. When Louis’ father (Aaron Paul) comes under suspicion, Pascal realizes other mysterious forces may be at work.”

Molly Parker and Barbara Hershey co-star.

This makes it two literary adaptations in a row for director Alexandre Aja, following his recent movie ‘Horns’ with Daniel Radcliffe, which was adapted from Joe Hill’s novel.

This would seem to be ushering in a new career thread for the French filmmaker, who has previously been most closely associated with high profile remakes, as director of 2006’s ‘The Hills Have Eyes,’ 2008’s ‘Mirrors,’ and 2010’s ‘Piranha 3D,’ and producer of 2012’s ‘Maniac.’

Not only that, but ‘The 9th Life of Louis Drax’ may mark a step away from the more gruesome territory of Aja’s existing body of work in favour of more classical Hitchcockian suspense, as star Sarah Gadon tells Empire the script “reminded me of films like ‘Vertigo’ or ‘Bunny Lake Is Missing.’”

No release date has been set for ‘The 9th Life of Louis Drax,’ but it is anticipated to reach screens at some point in 2015.
