Idris Elba In Talks For Star Trek 3 Villain

It looks as though Idris Elba may boldly go into the ‘Star Trek’ universe… as he reportedly enters talks to play a sci-fi villain in the upcoming ‘Star Trek 3’.

According to Variety, the 42-year-old British actor is up for a villainous role in the upcoming ‘Star Trek’ sequel.

“Idris Elba is in early talks to play the villain in ‘Star Trek 3’,” they revealed. But no further details of the role were available.

“Details of Elba’s role are being kept under wraps,” they explained. “Early rumors suggest that Klingons would be the main villains in this movie, as they have not had a full presence in previous instalments, but sources would not confirm if that was the case.”

Of course, the inclusion of the Klingons makes an awful lot of sense – after all, they were a huge presence in the original series and have barely made their presence known in the reboot.

In fact, all we’ve seen of them so far has been in ‘Star Trek Into Darkness’ during John Harrison’s escape into Klingon territory. But while they were certainly battle-ready, we didn’t really get much interaction with them.

And perhaps that’s where Idris Elba will come in.

‘Star Trek 3’ will be directed by Justin Lin… and most importantly, written by Simon Pegg. And as a major ‘Star Trek’ fan, I can’t help thinking he might be tempted to take on the most classic of sci-fi aliens.

Unfortunately, we still have no real concrete evidence either way, so for now we’ll have to wait and see. But will Idris Elba land the villainous role? It might be a stroke of genius if he does.
