Director John Carpenter has said that he wishes there had only been one ‘Halloween’ movie.

Echoing the thoughts of the entire world, the cult icon’s peerless scary movie spawned a legion of sequels since the first movie in 1978.

Speaking to Giant Bomb, he said: “I wish the only ‘Halloween’ made was the first one.

“I felt that there was no more story after the original.

“But audiences wanted to see Michael Myers return again and again.

“Or maybe it was producers who wanted him to return again and again for reasons having to do with profit.”

The remark about the movie’s producers is perhaps of interest, considering that Carpenter himself acted as producer on the first movie, along with ‘Halloween II’ and Halloween III: Season of the Witch’.

He’s also contributed as a writer to many of the sequels too, including ‘Halloween: The Curse of Michael Myers’ in 1995 and ‘Halloween H20: 20 Years Later’.

Eight ‘Halloween’ movies were made following the first, and then two more remakes in 2007 and 2009.

Earlier this month Malek Akkad, the son of the executive producer of the original movie and many of its sequels, Moustapha Akkad, confirmed that an 11th movie, somehow called ‘Halloween III’, is currently being written.

The original – and best – movie made a star of Jamie Lee Curtis, who herself went on to appear in ‘Halloween II’, reprising her role as Laurie Strode, and then playing an uncredited voice role in ‘Halloween III: Season of the Witch’.
