Josh Brolin On Why He Took The Role Of Thanos

After appearing in the recent ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’, Josh Brolin admits he loves the thought of taking everyone on as Marvel’s big, bad Thanos.

During an interview with Superhero Hype, the 46-year-old actor said, “I love the idea of Thanos,” he said. “Ultimately, it’s Thanos against everyone. Why wouldn’t you do that?”

Of course, fans of the comic books will instantly recognise Thanos as the Mad Titan – an intergalactic being who eventually comes to possess all of the infinity stones in an attempt to become omnipotent.

He’s certainly one of the biggest, baddest villains of the Marvel universe and with Galactica sold off to Fox along with the Fantastic Four rights, represents the biggest threat to the galaxy.

But how did Brolin land the role?

"Thanos came along because of my good friend Louis D’Esposito,” he said. “He and I used to train together. We did ‘Hollow Man’ together. He called me up and started talking about this thing. It was nice because I could intimately talk to him about it. What I liked. What I didn’t like about the whole idea of it… It was really exciting because of the possibilities that it could become. Not as an idea or as a blockbuster, but just as something different. It’s a character mentality."

Although Josh first appeared as Thanos in ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ we’re still yet to see him take centre stage and it seems for the time being, he remains a master manipulator until all the pieces of the jigsaw fall together.

But with Brolin confirmed for the upcoming ‘Infinity War’ it looks as though he’ll be getting plenty of screen time. But can the ‘Guardians’ and ‘The Avengers’ really stave him off? For now, we’ll have to wait and see.

‘Infinity War: Parts 1 & 2’ arrive in cinemas on 4 May 2018 and 3 May 2019.
