Joss Whedon Talks Avengers: Age Of Ultron’s Global Scale & Influence

Joss Whedon has been discussing why he chose to shoot ‘Avengers: Age Of Ultron’ across various countries, while he’s also revealed how these locations will affect the hugely anticipated sequel.

Whedon, who has once again written and directed the follow-up to his 2012 original blockbuster, didn’t really give too much away regarding the film. But once again his comments alluded to the much talked about Civil War story arc.

“This is a very global film,” Whedon confirmed to Marvel’s The Watcher web-series. “We wanted the world perspective on The Avengers. They’re being The Avengers and that’s a global thing and it doesn’t make everybody love them, so we wanted to see both sides of that.”

Is Whedon suggesting that the world doesn’t trust The Avengers? It certainly sounds that way, especially with Kevin Feige’s recent comments that the Superhuman Registration Act is implemented because humans are scared by superheroes.

It will be interesting to see how Whedon’s adventure adapts to being set in numerous locations. The ‘Buffy The Vampire Slayer’ creator went on to confirm that the film was shot in “the Italian Alps … Seoul, Korea … Johannesburg” while he also added that they “shot a little in Bangladesh. Then all over England.”

He already had enough on his plate trying to bring together a hoard of iconic superheroes in just one film - a feat he managed to do with ‘The Avengers’ with aplomb - so now having them jet-setting across the globe will add an extra complication that could possibly sink the movie.

That’s obviously a worst-case scenario. And let’s not forget that ‘The Avengers’ did have a few scenes set across a number of different locations. It’s just that the bulk of it either took place in New York City or on-board S.H.I.E.L.D’s Helicarrier.

‘Age Of Ultron’ sounds as if it will have numerous scenes extensively set at different, exotic locations though. Much like a Bond film. However, it’s easy to have 007 sauntering across the globe in a suit and sipping a martini. It is much harder to imagine The Hulk, Iron Man et al doing it without disrupting the rhythm of the film.

Fingers crossed Whedon has figured out how to do it.
