Marvel To Make Sure Captain America: Civil War Merchandise Is Aimed Towards Women

In the wake of the release of ‘Avengers: Age Of Ultron’ Marvel found themselves embroiled in a bit of a sexism scandal.

Not only was there criticism of the way the blockbuster presented Black Widow but Mark Ruffalo also took aim at the studio for the lack of merchandise that was available of Scarlett Johansson’s character as well as Elizabeth Olsen’s Scarlet Witch.

The same criticism had also been sent Marvel’s way regarding the availability of merchandise for Zoe Saldana’s Gamora before ‘Guardians Of The Galaxy’ was released too.

A senior Vice President over at Disney has insisted that Marvel Studios won’t make the same mistake again as he has vowed that they will produce merchandise that appeals to diverse audiences and women.

Speaking to Variety, Paul Glitter, who is the senior VP of licensing for Marvel at Disney Consumer Products, explained, “there will also be a big focus on adult female apparel” starting with ‘Captain America: Civil War’.

There are plenty of characters that will fit into Marvel’s new focus too. ‘Civil War’ will contain the female characters Black Widow and Scarlet Witch, while War Machine, Falcon, and Black Panther will also appeal to a diverse crowd too.

‘Civil War’ is released in the same year as the 75th anniversary of Captain America and there will be a huge interest in how the film celebrates this milestone.

‘Captain America: Civil War’ will hit cinemas on May 6, 2016, and it will see Chris Evans’ Captain America share the screen with a whole host of superheroes, which will include Iron Man, Black Widow, Falcon, Winter Soldier, Hawkeye, Black Panther, Vision, Scarlet Witch, Ant-Man, and Spider-Man. It promises to be kind of a big deal.
