Masters Of The Universe Reboot Under Threat

By the power of Grayskull! It looks as though He-Man and the Masters of the Universe might not be heading back to the big screen after all…

During an episode of Meet The Movie Press, The Wrap’s Jeff Sneider revealed that the upcoming ‘He-Man’ movie may not be going anywhere…

“Totally not going forward or happening in its current incarnation at all,” Sneider revealed. “I think that stalled out.”

Of course, the upcoming reboot would have been based upon the Mattel toy franchise, which led to a hit cartoon TV show back in the 1980s. Spawning a live-action movie back in 1987, it saw Dolph Lundgren as He-Man.

But while fans may have been hoping for some equally awesome casting in the upcoming reboot, it seems they may have a bit of a wait. That is, if ‘Masters of the Universe’ happens at all.

It was revealed by The Hollywood Reporter that ‘Kick-Ass 2’ director Jeff Wadlow was on board to write the script… and subsequently handed in his draft back in February. But this is definitely not the first time the project has hit a bump in the road. After all, the ‘Masters of the Universe’ movie was first reported back in 2007.

And has been in development ever since.

But will it ever see the light of day?

I can’t help thinking that ‘Masters of the Universe’ is looking increasingly unlikely… despite the rather awesome concept art posted by Columbia Senior VP, DeVon Franklin.

The problem is, this movie has already been stuck in development hell for a number of years. In fact, Jeff Wadlow isn’t the first to hand in a script draft, or even the first rewrite. And with a script still not pinned down, it seems a director becoming attached to the project is just a far flung dream.

And don’t even bother thinking about casting.

Will ‘Masters of the Universe’ ever get off the ground? For now, we’ll have to wait and see. But it looks as though it’s stalled, once again.
