Now Robert Downey Jr Says There Won't Be An Iron Man 4

Robert Downey Jr is currently having a blast both confirming and denying that ‘Iron Man 4’ is planned! Only hours after originally admitting that another follow-up addition to the franchise will be released, he has now declared that there currently aren’t any plans for a new blockbuster.

Earlier on Tuesday, Downey Jr, who has played Tony Stark in the previous three ‘Iron Man’ films, told Ellen De Generes during a chat on her talk-show that there would be a new film, but now he’s revealed that to David Letterman that there won’t be.

After being directly asked by Letterman, “Now what about the ‘Iron Man 4’. When will that be out?” Downey explained, “There’s no plans for an ‘Iron Man 4’ … there’s no script for ‘Iron Man 4’, but they do have a plan and I think they’re going to announce it, they’re very secretive about it.”

Later on in their discussion, Letterman then pushed the actor for some more information on the subject, asking, “Is there going to be another one of those ‘Iron Man’ films?” to which Downey declared, “Just between us, no. But I’m going to do other stuff with Marvel. I’m still going to be involved with Marvel and there’s gonna be plenty of fun stuff to happen.”

So what made Downey changed his mind? There is a chance he could have been slightly scolded by Marvel for revealing too much before they were prepared to announce the sequel, or maybe he’s just using this publicity to promote his upcoming turn in ‘The Judge’, which is released in the US this weekend and is the first film from his new production company.

It wouldn’t be the first time Downey has used his role as Tony Stark to then discuss the drama, and it’s actually a rather ingenious ploy to get people interested in the film/annoy hoards of comic-book fans.

Either way, Downey Jr.’s comments certainly suggest that he will return as Iron Man in one way or another in the near future, and let’s not forget that he has already filmed his part as the superhero in Joss Whedon’s ‘Avengers: Age Of Ultron’; which is due out next summer. So there’s no point in getting too het up just yet.
