Arnold Schwarzenegger's Son Lands First Major Film Role

In a case of like Oak, like son, Patrick Schwarzenegger, son of the Austrian Oak Arnold, has landed his first major film role.

According to movie industry bible Deadline, Schwarzenegger younger has nabbed a leading spot in the forthcoming ‘Midnight Sun’, a remake of the Japanese YA movie of the same name, released in 2006.

The 21-year-old will play opposite 17-year-old actress Bella Thorne, who plays Katie, a girl unable to go out in sunlight because she suffers from the rare disease Xeroderma pigmentosum.

Schwarzenegger plays her love interest Charlie – with the pair having been rumoured to be involved in a real-life romance earlier this year, though at the time Patrick was going out with singer Miley Cyrus.

It will be Patrick’s first major role, but not his first full-stop.

He’s shown up in small roles in a number of movies since his debut in 2006, aged 13, in sports comedy 'The Benchwarmers’ with Rob Schnieder and Jon Heder.

He also appeared in rom-com 'Stuck In Love’ in 2012, as a frat boy in 'Grown Ups 2’ with Adam Sandler, 2014’s coming of age drama 'Dear Eleanor’ and playing Jeff in horror comedy 'Scout’s Guide to the Zombie Apocalypse’ earlier this year.

Arnold Schwarzenegger was 22 when he appeared in his first movie, playing Hercules in the title role of 'Hercules In New York’ in 1969.

There’s no release date scheduled for 'Midnight Sun’ as yet.
