While we’ve seen plenty of shots of him in character with the rest of the Squad stars — including Margot Robbie (Harley Quinn), Jared Leto (Joker), Joel Kinnaman (Rick Flag), and Jai Courtney (Captain Boomerang) — this is the first time Smith has been spotted in action.

Although he is the undisputed biggest name in the Suicide Squad ensemble (which will also feature Ben Affleck as Batman/Bruce Wayne and Viola Davis as Amanda Waller), Smith is desperate to get his blockbuster bona fides back on track after the underwhelming trifecta of Focus (2015), After Earth (2013), and Men in Black 3 (2012).

While Warners initially tried to keep a lid on Squad plot leaks, forcing takedowns of some early clips that made their way to YouTube, the producers have either come to embrace the free publicity or just given up on keeping fans from flocking to the public streets of Toronto to capture the costumed antiheroes. In recent weeks, we’ve seen a violent confrontation between Joker and Harley Quinn and a car chase featuring Joker’s pimped-out sportscar and the newest iteration of the Batmobile.

Suicide Squad, directed by David Ayer, is scheduled to continue shooting in the vicinity of Toronto through September, and will hit theaters Aug. 16, 2016.
