Warner Bros are circling David Ayer to direct a film based on DC comics’ ‘Suicide Squad’.

Should he sign on, Ayer, whose next picture ‘Fury’ is released in October, would be working from a script written by Justin Marks, according to Variety.

Warner Bros and DC already have a number of unannounced films on their slate through until 2020. Those confirmed so far are ‘Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice’, ‘Justice League’ and ‘Shazam!’ which was revealed earlier this month by Dwayne Johnson, who will be playing villain Black Adam.

DC’s ‘Suicide Squad’ series is about a group of supervillains given a shot at redemption by their government, but whose mission is one in which they’re expected to die.

The film, like the comic, will likely star lesser-known villains (so don’t expect Joker to show up) but in grouping them together Warner Bros will be hoping to raise their profile.

Seeing as they could be from any DC property - Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Green Arrow, Flash, Aquaman etc - it could be used as platform for any future franchise.

Ayer is best known as the director of Jake Gyllenhaal cop movie ‘End of Watch’ and for writing ‘The Fast and The Furious’ and ‘Training Day’.
