Wolverine 3 Will Be Hugh Jackman’s Last X-Men Movie

It looks as though Hugh Jackman will be hanging up his claws sooner than we expected… as he reveals that the upcoming sequel to ‘The Wolverine’ will be his last ‘X-Men’ movie.

During an appearance on the Dr. Oz Show (via Comicbook.com) the 46-year-old mutant said that he won’t be back after the third ‘Wolverine’ solo movie.

“This will be my last one,” he said. “It is my last time. It just felt like it was the right time to do it. And let’s be honest, 17 years. I never thought in a million years it would last, so I’m so grateful to the fans for the opportunity of playing it.”

Of course, there’s no mention of whether or not he’ll appear in the upcoming ‘X-Men: Apocalypse’… so perhaps there’s another film in between now and then. After all, he’s appeared in every ‘X-Men’ movie so far.

But for fans of Jackman’s Wolverine, this is terrible news indeed.

Obviously, there’s been plenty of talk about Jackman’s departure over the years – mostly due to the character’s inability to age. I mean, it’s a given that he would one day have to bow out, but most ‘X-Men’ fans weren’t expecting it quite so soon… even if he has hinted towards his exit from the franchise several times before.

But this time, it looks as though he’s deadly serious.

“I kind of have in my head what we’re going to do in this last one,” he said. “It just feels like this is the perfect way to go out.”

Obviously, 17 years is a long time to play a single character – that’s right, it’ll be a whole 17 years from his original appearance in ‘X-Men’ until his final starring role in the ‘Wolverine’ sequel. And perhaps it’s time for him to move on.

But will the ‘X-Men’ franchise really be able to replace him? And would they even want to? For now, we’ll have to wait and see.

The third ‘Wolverine’ movie heads to cinemas on 2 March 2017.
