Avengers: Age Of Ultron Set For UK Reshoots

The production of Marvel’s ‘Avengers: Age of Ultron’ will reportedly return to Great Britain in the new year for reshoots.

This report comes from the Daily Mail, who claim that the bulk of the film’s key players - including Chris Hemsworth, Robert Downey Jr, Mark Ruffalo, Jeremy Renner, Paul Bettany, Scarlett Johansson and perhaps most intriguingly Tom Hiddleston - have “all been asked to make themselves available over a two-week period in January to film additional scenes at Pinewood Studios.”

We’re also told the team are likely to return to Pinewood in late 2015 to begin probable “back to back” shooting on ‘Avengers: Infinity War’ Parts 1 and 2.

Time was, any reports of reshoots would spark panic amongst overzealous fans, prompting speculation that the film in question must be in great trouble.

Happily, I think most of us are over that now, and accept that some amount of reshoots are inevitable, particularly on as major a production as this where there is tremendous demand to meet audience expectation.

The Daily Mail mention hearing tell that these ‘Avengers: Age of Ultron’ reshoots are meant to give the film “a bit more kick-ass on an extravagant scale” - so it seems fair to assume it’s primarily about upping the action quota, rather than any plot or character issues.

There is no indication as to whether the cast list for these reshoots mentioned above is exhaustive, or whether any other key players might be required: we might note there’s no mention of Chris Evans, Samuel L Jackson or Cobie Smulders being needed, nor series newcomers Elizabeth Olsen (Scarlet Witch), Aaron Taylor-Johnson (Quicksilver), or James Spader (Ultron).

Again, Tom Hiddleston’s mention is perhaps the most certain to spark curiosity. Despite being the central villain of ‘Avengers Assemble’ and a vital part of both ‘Thor’ movies, until recently there had been no indication that he would feature at all in ‘Avengers: Age of Ultron.’

However, last month the cat was let out of the bag by Idris Elba, who revealed that he had shot scenes for the sequel with Hiddleston and Hemsworth.

Obviously we know that cybernetic supervillain Ultron will be the biggest thorn in the side of our heroes this time around, with a little help from Thomas Kretschmann as Baron von Strucker (introduced in the mid-credits coda of ‘Captain America: the Winter Soldier’) - and, potentially, Andy Serkis as Ulysses Klaw.

So just what role will Loki play this time around, particularly given that, following the events of ‘Thor: the Dark World,’ the God of Thunder presently believes his devious brother to be dead…?

'Avengers: Age of Ultron' will hit UK cinemas on 24 April 2015.
