Batman V Superman Choreographer Teases Big Fight Scene

‘Batman V Superman’ is set to pit two of the world’s finest superheroes against one another… and it looks as though Batman is on the back foot.

It’s no secret that DC fans have been wondering exactly how a fight between Batman and Superman will play out. After all, the Man of Steel vastly overpowers his decidedly human adversary. But will cold breath and heat vision be enough to stop Bruce Wayne in his tracks?

According to the film’s choreographer, it certainly gives Batman a bit of a disadvantage.

During an interview with Los Andes Diaro (translated by the folks at Batman News) choreographer Guillermo Grispo revealed some interesting bits about the big ‘Batman V Superman’ fight scene.

“There’s a thought that Batman has no chance, that [Superman] will squash him like a bug,” he said. “But when you see the movie, and how it all comes out, there’s a very intelligent explanation as to why they would have a first-hand confrontation, although it seems to be totally to Batman’s disadvantage.”

Of course, the idea that Batman might be feeling a bit overpowered is no surprise. After all, he may have plenty of tools and gadgets up his sleeves, but one thing he’s definitely lacking is super powers.

But will that matter in the end?

“Batman it’s going to fight the way I’ve always dreamed seeing him fight… he’s a character so prepared in martial arts that you can do a lot of things with him,” he said. “but filmmakers usually don’t go all the way with it. Even in the last Nolan movies the action scenes aren’t very good from a technical, martial arts point of view to things like choreography, filming, bad camera movements…”

Grispo soon clarifies that he’s still a fan of the Nolan movies… but with a focus on more martial aspects of filmmaking, it’s obvious why he’d prefer Zack Snyder’s apparently more physical approach.

“Those are the kind of details that Zack, being so physical himself, loves preparing,” he explained. “I think there’s going to be a big difference when you see these Batman fights in comparison to the previous ones.”

I can’t help wondering how far some martial arts training will get Batman when he goes head-to-head with a man who can fire lasers out of his eyes. But it certainly sounds like a more visceral approach for Snyder’s Batman.

Will he be able to overcome his super-powered foe? And will it involve Kryptonite at all? For now, we’ll have to wait and see.
