Ben Hardy Confirmed To Play Angel In X-Men: Apocalypse

It looks as though recent rumours have turned out to be correct – Ben Hardy will play Angel in the upcoming ‘X-Men: Apocalypse’.

During an interview with Empire Magazine, director Bryan Singer revealed that former ‘Eastenders’ star Ben Hardy will be getting a cool set of wings in the ‘X-Men’ sequel.

“Ben Hardy is Angel – I shall confirm it for you!” said Singer. “But he’s not a very nice Angel! And that’s all I’ll say…”

And he also unveiled some rather awesome concept art…

Of course, the 24-year-old actor has been linked to the part ever since he was rumoured to have left Albert Square for a big Hollywood role… and it turns out those rumours were right on the money.

But is this the Angel we know and love?

In the comic books, Angel was one of the original X-Men introduced in the 1960s by Marvel maestros Stan Lee and Jack Kirby. His real name is Warren Worthington III, but was known as Angel due to the large pair of angel-like wings protruding from his back… which gave him the power of flight. Possessing increased strength and agility, he’s a rather formidable mutant when it comes down to it.

But Apocalypse manages to make him even more powerful…

Saving Angel from a life-threatening explosion, Apocalypse cuts him a deal – become the Horseman Death and he will get his wings back. Of course, Angel jumps at the opportunity and his original wings become replaced with an organic metal version which allows him to fire metal feathers at will.

Mentally conditioned to obey Apocalypse’s every command, it’s not long before he’s forced to take on the X-Men… and I can’t help thinking this is the version we’ll see in the upcoming ‘X-Men: Apocalypse’.

After all, Bryan Singer said it himself – he’s not a very nice Angel… and that concept art really speaks for itself.

Of course, this isn’t Angel’s first appearance on the big screen – having appeared in ‘X-Men: The Last Stand’, and played by Ben Foster… but this was a much more friendly version of Angel, and it seems a far cry from what we could potentially see in ‘Apocalypse’.

How bad will Ben Hardy’s Angel be? For now, we’ll have to wait and see… but it sounds as though Apocalypse may have some villainous company.

‘X-Men: Apocalypse’ heads to cinemas on 12 February 2016.
