Blackhat Trailer: Chris Hemsworth Stars In Michael Mann’s Cyberthriller

It’s been nearly five years since Michael Mann graced our screens with ‘Public Enemies’, but now the ‘Heat’ director is back with his mysterious cyberthriller ‘Blackhat’.

Watch the first trailer above.

Starring Chris Hemsworth as Hathaway, a hacker enlisted by the government to help track down a high-level cybercrime network, the jet-setting film takes in multiple global locales including Chicago, Los Angeles, Hong Kong, and Jakarta.

It’s refreshing to see Hemsworth in contemporary clothes, rather than his ‘Thor’ outfit, or his 1970s ‘Rush’ racing gear.

The trailer is full of Mann flourishes including his trademark blue hues, street shoot-outs, and flashes of ultra violence, and it looks pretty cool, even if we don’t quite buy Hemsworth as a computer hacker.

The film also stars Viola Davis as Hathaway’s government handler, as well as John Ortiz, Tang Wei, Wang Leehom, and Tom Cruise’s cousin William Mapother.

Mann has been fairly quiet over the last few years, concentrating on his TV career, including the ill-fated horse-racing TV show ‘Luck’ which was cancelled after one season following animal safety concerns.

'Blackhat’ is in cinemas on 20 February, 2015, a week after ’50 Shades of Grey’ which is a smart bit of counter programming if you ask us.
