It looks as though David Tennant has landed a role in Marvel’s upcoming Netflix series, ‘A.K.A Jessica Jones’… and this time, he won’t be playing a good guy.

It’s no secret that Marvel Studios is ramping up its efforts to take over the small screen… with a variety of all-new Netflix series’ that will introduce some of its classic superheroes. We’ll soon see Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage and Iron Fist take to our screens.

But what about those villains?

According to Entertainment Weekly, David Tenant will be playing Purple Man in the upcoming ‘A.K.A. Jessica Jones’.

“A Time Lord is coming to the Marvel universe,” they reveal. “The studio has cast David Tennant as the major villain in its upcoming Netflix series A.K.A. Jessica Jones. The Doctor Who and Gracepoint star will play Zebediah Killgrave (aka The Purple Man).”

Of course, the Purple man was original a foe of Daredevil - who will also appear in his very own Netflix series… but eventually ended up taking on Jessica Jones. The purple-coloured man – who uses pheromones to control the minds of his victims – uses his powers on Jessica, forcing her to live with him while he psychologically tortures her.

At the moment, it’s unclear how closely the TV series will follow the events of the comic books. But while he may not sink to those depths, it’s almost certain that Jessica and Luke Cage will go up against this super-powered foe.

“I’m so honored and excited by the prospect of David inhabiting this multifaceted character,” said Marvel producer Melissa Rosenberg. “He can deliver the most heart-wrenching moment to the driest of lines, and all points in between. He’ll make Kilgrave a truly original villain.”

Obviously, it’s also unclear at this stage whether or not David Tennant will appear across Marvel’s new Netflix shows. And with ties to several characters, it’s entirely likely that we’ll see their paths cross.

‘A.K.A. Jessica Jones’ is the second show we’ve heard about so far… with ‘Daredevil’ heading to Netflix on 10 April 2015. But it seems there’s plenty more to come, leading up to the formation of The Defenders.

But will David Tennant make a good villain? For now, we’ll have to wait and see.
