Deadpool Will Please The Most Critical Fanboys

‘Deadpool’ star Ryan Reynolds thinks the upcoming movie will please the most ardent fans… and it’s been a long time coming.

During an interview with Shortlist Magazine, the 38-year-old actor revealed how excited he is about the upcoming ‘Deadpool’ movie… and thinks the fans should be, too.

“I’m incredibly happy about it,” he said. “We’ve got a director that understands that world, and writers with a lavish devotion to the canon of that character… That’s the most important aspect: it’s made in a way the most critical of fanboys could embrace. Well, that’s the hope.”

Of course, Marvel fans have been dying to see Deadpool return to the big screen after his brief appearance in ‘X-Men Origins: Wolverine’. And with Ryan Reynolds returning to the role, it’s a casting choice most fans have rallied behind.

“It’s been a long time,” he said of the film’s pre-production. “But it’s happened in the right way and that’s all that matters.”

Obviously, the film would never have been green lit if it wasn’t for the fans. After all, it was only after some leaked test footage made its way online that 20th Century Fox really got a feel for how much the fans want to see this movie.

And shortly afterwards, it looks as though the wheels were put in motion to make this project happen. But while the studio is happy to see ‘Deadpool’ return to the big screen, it seems that it doesn’t have the budget of most comic book movies…

“We don’t have the kind of money that most superhero movies do,” revealed Reynolds. “But that’s great, actually. Necessity is the mother of invention, and that’s why we get to make the movie we want to make.”

In this case, I find myself agreeing with him.

For one thing, we’ve seen Hollywood throw billions of dollars down the drain, giving huge budgets to films that just don’t make it back at the box office. And some of the greatest films of the last few years have been low budget affairs that just worked well to bring their idea to the screen.

Can ‘Deadpool’ follow suit? For now, we have to wait and see… but with the cast and crew seemingly enthusiastic about the film, I get the feeling they’re onto a winner.

“You gotta have faith in the people you’re working with,” said Reynolds. “And have faith in the prep, and that’s all I’m doing. On this one, the prep’s been eleven years. You’d like to think you’re putting your best foot forward, but we’ll see.”

‘Deadpool’ heads to cinemas on 12 February 2016.
