- Josh Trank says the film is heavily influenced by ‘Ultimate Fantastic Four’, a comic book reboot written by Brian Michael Bendis and Mark Millar that began in 2004. The director cites the book’s art by Bryan Hitch as a key reference point for the film’s development.

- Trank says he pitched the idea of rebooting the film franchise to the series co-creator Stan Lee, who was overjoyed that finally “somebody was taking the Fantastic Four seriously”.

- The producer and director praise their four main leads Miles Teller, Kate Mara, Michael B Jordan, and Jamie Bell saying they couldn’t have found four better dramatic actors for the roles.

- “Serious” and “dramatic” were words never associated with the last big screen ‘Fantastic Four’ outings, which is something that Trank seems to want to put right for fans. He’s aiming for something a bit more substantial saying, “I want to put the ‘science’ in science fiction”.

- The filmmakers are keenly aware of the Four’s heritage and stature within the Marvel comic world – the team predate the Avengers by two years – calling them “the most important superhero group”.

- Ultimately they recognise that the ‘Fantastic Four’ are a family, not a team, and the film is all about seeing how far “a family can be stretched”. Pun not intended.

'Fantastic Four' is coming to UK cinemas on 6 August, 2014.
