Guillermo Del Toro Confirms DC Shared Universe

It looks as though Guillermo Del Toro’s ‘Justice League Dark’ film will be part of the DC universe after all as the director himself confirms.

During an interview with Collider, the director himself revealed that his script for the Justice League Dark film – tentatively titled ‘Dark Universe’ – will bring Constantine and the gang into the regular DC universe.

“I haven’t followed up with ‘Frankenstein’ so I really have very little to add to that,” he explained. “Right now the only sort of shared universe project I’m working on is ‘Dark Universe’ for Warners, you know, for DC, which is Swamp Thing, Demon, Deadman, Zatanna.  It’s a very different universe.”

Of course, he recently submitted the screenplay to WB for weekend reads. Depending on their reaction, it looks as though we could get some more news about the upcoming project sometime soon.

“Today, the completed screenplay for ‘Dark Universe’ officially went to weekend reads at Warner Bros,” said Forbes. “The studio’s reactions to the script will be coming back in a few days, and the film could take another step toward production if Warner has a favorable opinion of what they see on the page.”

But will it really connect to DC’s big screen universe?

From Del Toro’s comments, it certainly sounds as though that’s the case. But quite how this darker, supernatural side of the DC universe will fit with the gritty realism of ‘Man of Steel’ remains to be seen.

And then there’s the matter of the recent DC slate announcement… which didn’t contain so much of a hint at the ‘Justice League Dark’ movie. But then, perhaps it just wasn’t ready at that time.

‘Dark Universe’ remains a bit of a mystery to DC fans. But I get the feeling we’ll find out more soon enough.
