Hawkeye Will Return In Captain America: Civil War

After hints that Jeremy Renner would return to the role, it looks as though Clint ‘Hawkeye’ Barton will appear in ‘Captain America: Civil War’.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Jeremy Renner has already signed up for the upcoming ‘Captain America’ sequel.

“He will shoot Captain America: Civil War this spring,” they reveal, “then segue to Story of Your Life in mid-June, working with Villeneuve, considered one of the hottest directors in town and who just booked the sequel to Blade Runner.”

Of course, this isn’t the first time that Jeremy Renner has been linked to the upcoming ‘Captain America’ sequel… and the man himself has even hinted that he could return in that particular movie.

“There are rumblings of Captain America 3,” he told Collider. “I don’t know what’s going to happen there. I’ve got to find the time, man [laughs]. I’m trying to stay home and I can’t.”

And then there’s this recent Twitter exchange between Rennner and Captain America himself, Chris Evans.

Obviously, it’s now been confirmed as more than just ‘rumblings’… and the 44-year-old actor is all but confirmed to return to the role. But the big question remains – where will his loyalties lie when it comes to Civil War?

I can’t help thinking that Hawkeye is likely to take the side of Captain America. After all, Jeremy Renner recently revealed that he’s not quite the company man he first seemed to be.

“He’s only a team player because he sort of has to be,” he told IGN. “He’s not really a company man. Cap can be that guy, I guess, but Hawkeye is his own man. A lot will be revealed with a few simple scenes [in Avengers: Age of Ultron]. You’ll understand why he thinks the way he thinks. But yeah, I don’t think S.H.I.E.L.D. was ever really that important to him. Fury’s awesome. [Hawkeye] likes Fury and will do anything for him, but he doesn’t just punch in and punch out.”

Obviously, this could put him at odds with Tony Stark when it comes to the big argument of accountability for superheroes… and that’s when Hawkeye is likely to line up with Captain America.

Whether it plays out that way on the big screen remains to be seen. But one thing’s for certain – Hawkeye is back.

‘Captain America: Civil War’ heads to cinemas on 29 April 2016.
