Jai Courtney Eyed For Suicide Squad

It looks as though David Ayer’s ‘Suicide Squad’ may have found its Deadshot… and it’s none other than ‘Terminator: Genisys’ star, Jai Courtney.

According to Variety, the 28-year-old Australian is in talks for a major role in the upcoming ‘Suicide Squad’ movie – Batman villain and squad leader, Deadshot.

“Jai Courtney is in talks for a major role in Warner Bros. ‘Suicide Squad’ that could prove to be Batman villain Deadshot,” they reveal.

“Tom Hardy, Will Smith, Margot Robbie and Jared Leto are also in various stages of discussions to join the super-villainous movie, which is being written and directed by ‘Fury’ filmmaker David Ayer.”

Of course, Deadshot is a well-known villain to fans of the comic books… and perhaps one of the most interesting members of the Suicide Squad. Also known as Floyd Lawton, Deadshot is plagued by an incident from his childhood. Attempting to save his family from an abusive father, he attempts to kill the man with his own rifle, instead accidentally killing his brother.

It’s this tragic accident that causes Deadshot to completely disregard his own life, acknowledged to have an on-going death wish to the point that he is frequently disappointed to have survived missions.

Of course, with ‘Suicide Squad’ on the cards for 2016, there’s nothing to say this ever-popular villain won’t return in one form or another… and this could be the start of a recurring appearance for Courtney. That is, if he lands the role.

According to Deadline, Courtney may not even be up for the role at all…

“Courtney might instead be cast in another of the DC comic book properties that WB has slotted through 2020,” they explain. But as for who that might be, your guess is as good as theirs.

Jai Courtney is certainly making his mark lately, taking the role of a new terminator in ‘Terminator: Genisys’ and appearing in the recent sci-fi action film ‘Divergent’. But will he land this DC universe role?

I can’t help thinking he’d be an excellent addition to the Suicide Squad… and with Will Smith, Margot Robbie and Tom Hardy also rumoured for parts, he’ll be in good company.

‘Suicide Squad’ will head to cinemas on 5 August 2016.
