Kevin Feige Says Ant-Man Is About Passing The Torch

After that rather ominous trailer, ‘Ant-Man’ executive producer Kevin Feige reveals that the film is about passing the torch from one Ant-Man to another.

During an interview with USA Today, Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige explained what ‘Ant-Man’ is all about.

“Hank Pym invented the Ant-Man technology, went on many adventures and is now much older and trying to recruit a new person,” said Feige. “It’s the first film we’ve made in which the story is about a torch being passed, essentially.”

Of course, the notion of passing the torch from one generation to the next is hardly new… but seeing as we’ve never even met the first iteration of Ant-Man, it seems like a very bold move.

But what’s all this about Hank Pym’s ‘many adventures’?

It’s been rumoured for some time that portions of the movie will take place in the ‘60s, when Hank Pym’s Ant-Man was at the height of his superhero career. Reportedly going up against a ‘Fidel Castro’ type villain, it looks as though we might get to see both Ant-Men in action.

But will there be a glimpse of Pym’s other adventures? A blast into his past?

Of course, Marvel Studios is no stranger to big screen blockbusters… but “[Ant-Man is] one of the most surprisingly emotional,” said Feige. And I can’t help thinking that with a montage dedicated to Lang’s daughter in the new trailer, perhaps they laid it on a bit thick.

But one thing we certainly get from the awesome new trailer is the sense of the torch being passed. This is Scott Lang’s chance to make a difference… and Hank Pym’s chance to make up for his own absences by hanging up the suit and leaving his superhero career in good hands.

Will Scott Lang be up to the challenge? We’ll have to wait and see… but Marvel’s tiniest hero already looks set to make a big entrance.

‘Ant-Man’ heads to cinemas on 17 July 2015.
