Michael Caine Supports Ben Affleck As Batman

Ever since Ben Affleck was cast in the upcoming ‘Batman V Superman’ fans have been left wondering – will he really be any good? Well, fellow actor and former butler, Michael Caine thinks he’s more than up to the task.

In an interview with BANG Showbiz, the legendary British actor was keen to show his support for the new Batman… after all, he has a certain loyalty to the Dark Knight.

“I think he’s going to do very well because it’s a different outlook,” he said. And let’s be honest - he couldn’t be more right. Starring Ben Affleck as a grizzled, older Batman, it’s a very different take on the Batman that Michael Caine starred alongside. “He’s a very good actor,” he added. “Ben Affleck is a wonderful actor “.

Of course, Michael Caine’s role as Alfred has since gone to Jeremy Irons… and with a completely new cast, it’s going to be interesting how they stack up against the familiar faces we love from the ‘Dark Knight’ trilogy.

But what does Michael Caine think about the upcoming ‘Batman V Superman’ movie?

"I think it will be a really interesting film,” he said. “I’ll definitely go and watch it."

Hardly a glowing endorsement, but then Sir Michael is probably as much in the dark as we are right now. That said, it’s nice to know that Ben Affleck already has the confidence of the Batman;s former-aide. But will he live up to expectations?

For now, we’ll have to wait and see… but in the meantime, Sir Michael Caine has a rather nice anecdote about his first encounter with Christopher Nolan.

“’It’s amazing when you’re an actor, things happen,” he said. “One Sunday morning there’s a knock at the door, and there’s a guy standing there who I’ve never met and I don’t recognise and he’s holding a script and he says, ‘I’ve got a script for you.’.”

And who was the man with the script? None other than Christopher Nolan himself.

“I said, ‘OK, thank you very much.’ He goes, ‘Can I come in and talk to you.’ I thought he was just delivering it, but I suddenly got a feeling this guy was quite important. So he comes in and introduces himself and he’s got the script for the first Batman. ‘I want you to play the butler,’ he tells me. I said, ‘So what do I say? Dinner is served? Would you like a beverage with that?’ He says, ‘No it’s better than that Michael.’.”

‘Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice’ is set to appear in cinemas across the UK on 25 March 2016.
