Mini-Me Actor Verne Troyer Going Horror in Gnome Alone

It’s another of those instances on which the title says it all. Verne Troyer, famed for his role as Mini-Me in the ‘Austin Powers’ movie, is headlining a new direct-to-DVD horror movie entitled ‘Gnome Alone.’

Troyer, one of the world’s best known dwarf actors and a former stuntman (as well as a one-time Celebrity Big Brother contestant), takes the title role of the gnome whose plans would appear to be a bit more sinister than sitting in a garden holding a fishing rod.

We’re going to go out on a limb and assume the film will be a tad less family friendly than the Macaulay Culkin classic which the title riffs on.

Assuming you’re not sold already, here’s the official synopsis of ‘Gnome Alone’:

"When timid college student Zoe witnesses a hit-and-run, the dying victim gives her a strange amulet. Suddenly, all those who have offended Zoe in her life begin dying horrible deaths at the hands of a malicious gnome (Troyer).

"When Zoe discovers the horrible history behind the amulet, will she be able to harness its magical power before the gnome begins killing those closest to her?“

Interestingly, this is not the only dwarf-themed horror movie to have been produced by Lionsgate Home Entertainment of late, as they recently released ‘Leprechaun: Origins,’ a reboot of the 1990s horror franchise which starred Warwick Davis.

However, ‘Origins’ displeased many fans of the ‘Leprechaun’ series (yes, believe it or not there are plenty out there) by covering new star, WWE’s Dylan ‘Hornswoggle’ Postl, in heavy make-up and turning the character into an inarticulate monster far removed from the rhyme-spilling motormouth portrayed by Davis.

As the ‘Gnome Alone’ cover art shows a clearly recognisable Troyer, perhaps this might wind up closer to the film ‘Leprechaun’ fans were really hoping for?

In the meantime, Warwick Davis has reunited with original ‘Leprechaun’ director Mark Jones to make a new horror movie entitled ‘Vamprechaun.’ Are we in a golden age or what?

'Gnome Alone' is to be released by Lionsgate in early 2015.
