Morena Baccarin Up For Deadpool Role?

It looks as though ‘Deadpool’ is on the lookout for a leading lady… and Morena Baccarin and Taylor Schilling are on the shortlist.

According to Deadline Hollywood, the upcoming ‘Deadpool’ movie is searching for a new female lead… and they’ve narrowed it down to a shortlist of six.

“20th Century Fox has made test deals with a small group of actresses for the female lead opposite Ryan Reynolds on Deadpool,” they revealed. “Here are four of the actresses: Morena Baccarin… Taylor Schilling… Crystal Reed… and Rebecca Rittenhouse.”

But it seems there are two more names to add to the list.

“Add Sarah Greene (Vikings, Noble) and Jessica De Gouw (Arrow and Deadline Gallipoli) to this short list.”

But what role are they all up for?

At the moment, that’s currently unknown, but with ‘Deadpool’ focussing on the exploits of Marvel’s Merc With A Mouth – Wade Wilson – it’s likely that his leading lady is going to be a super-powered ally. And she could well be one of the X-Men mutants.

It’s already been suggested that Siryn could be the perfect match for Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool. After all, the Irish mutant has been connected with the quick-witted anti-hero throughout the comic books.

A core member of the ‘X-Force’ – also thought to be in development at Fox – Siryn has the ability to emit a sonic scream to incapacitate her foes. And she can even use her control of sonic waves in order to fly.

But most importantly, Siryn had an on-again off-again relationship with Deadpool himself.

Could Morena Baccarin and the others be up for the role of Siryn? For now, we’ll have to wait and see. But it certainly makes a lot of sense.

‘Deadpool’ stars Ryan Reynolds as the infamous Merc With A Mouth. Directed by Tim Miller, the film is expected to start shooting in march 2015.

‘Deadpool’ heads to cinemas on 12 February 2016.
