Russo Brothers Rumoured For Avengers: Infinity War

It looks as though Marvel directors Anthony and Joe Russo may have just signed on for their next big project – ‘Avengers: Infinity War’.

It’s no secret that Joss Whedon is keen to hang up his superhero cape after ‘Avengers: Age of Ultron’. But who will take over Marvel’s flagship franchise? ‘Captain America: The Winter Soldier’ proved to be last year’s big hit… and with the Russo brothers bringing ‘Civil War’ to the big screen, it seems they’re the logical choice.

And now they’ve reportedly signed on for Part 1 and Part 2 of ‘Avengers: Infinity War’.

According to Badass Digest, the directors of ‘Captain America: The Winter Soldier’ aren’t just being pursued to direct – it’s already a done deal.

“The deal is done,” they said. “Expect an announcement soon… I first reported this to you guys back in November, and now I can tell you it’s come to pass: Joe and Anthony Russo will follow up Captain America: Civil War by graduating to Avengers: Infinity War Part 1 and 2.”

Of course, this comes after the directing duo have been linked to the upcoming ‘Spider-Man’ movie, as well as the new, 2017 ‘Ghostbusters’ film. But with so many other films in the pipeline, do they really have enough time to cover it all?

“[Infinity War Parts 1 and 2] should shoot back-to-back in 2016 and 2017.”

Now, this would place ‘Infinity War’ to start filming just after principle photography on their other major Marvel release – ‘Captain America: Civil War’. It’s certainly plausible for them to head straight into production… and it looks as though the folks at /Film have heard that the Russos were desperate to jump on board ‘Infinity War’.

“We’d heard the Russos were clamoring to do Avengers 3 and 4 after Civil War and Marvel loved the idea,” they explained. “In fact, everyone was pretty much certain about it since Joss Whedon is done with directing Avengers movies after Age of Ultron.”

Of course, ‘Spider-Man’ has also become a possibility since then… and this is apparently also a franchise that the Russos adore. Given their newfound involvement with Sony, it seems likely that they’d at least be considered for the project. And that makes things a little less manageable over the next few years.

Obviously, it’s not impossible… and if the studios are game, it would mean non-stop work for the Russo brothers over the next four years.

But will it actually pan out like that? For now, we’ll have to wait and see.

‘Avengers: Infinity War’ heads to cinemas on 27 April 2018.
