Anthony Mackie On Replacing Chris Evans As Captain America

Those of you who follow the ‘Captain America’ comic books will know that the famous shield has changed hands numerous times in recent editions.

Anthony Mackie is more than aware of this, and during a recent discussion with Windy City Live [via Comic Book Movie] he admitted that if 2016’s ‘Captain America: Civil War’ follows the path of the comic books then he doesn’t plan on letting go of the shield.

“Well, you know there are many incarnations in the comic book, and we are now going into the ‘Civil War’,” he declared. “So, if you look at it in the comic book, Cap gives Bucky the shield, Bucky gives it back to Cap, Cap gives it to [Sam Wilson aka the Falcon].”

Mackie’s explanation didn’t stop there though. He continued, “Then Bucky goes off and marries Black Widow, so I keep the shield … give it back to Cap, and recently Cap wanted to be old, so he gave me the shield back and now I got the shield; I’m not giving it back.”

Of course there are numerous elements to Mackie’s explanation that are unlikely to be featured in Marvel’s upcoming adaptation of ‘Captain America: Civil War.’ It would be a huge shock if Bucky Barnes ended up marrying Black Widow. In fact I can say with 100% certainty that won’t happen.

Meanwhile it’s still very much up in the air what’s in store for Chris Evans’ Steve Rogers/Captain America over the coming movies.

‘Avengers: Age Of Ultron’ is set to drive a wedge between Iron Man, Captain America et al, while ‘Captain America: Civil War’, especially with Robert Downey Jr.’s inclusion, is also destined to threatened Steve Rogers’ tenure with the shield.

Ultimately though we will only know more after ‘Avengers: Age Of Ultron’ is released in the UK on 24 April, 2015.

Meanwhile Mackie will be fighting RDJ, Evans, Sebastian Stan, Frank Grillo, Chadwick Boseman, and Daniel Bruhl for screen-time when ‘Captain America: Civil War’ hits cinemas on May 6, 2016.
