A new documentary which is set to show the dark side of Apple founder Steve Jobs has been slammed by one of the company’s top bosses.

Eddy Cue, Apple’s senior vice president of internet software and services, has said that forthcoming ‘Steve Jobs: The Man in the Machine’ is ‘mean-spirited’.

Directed by celebrated filmmaker Alex Gibney – whose documentary expose of Scientology ‘Going Clear’ has also recently hit the headlines after premiering at Sundance – it shows Jobs in a murky light.

Gibney claims that Jobs backdated stock options for the company, hid profits from the US government and denied his daughter’s paternity, only agreeing to pay maintenance of $500 per month after Apple went public, making him a multi-millionaire.

The film, which Apple did not co-operate with, also claims he was a bully who was prone to angry outbursts and temper tantrums.

Cue tweeted: “Very disappointed. An inaccurate and mean-spirited view of my friend. It’s not a reflection of the Steve I knew.”

Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, Gibney (below) said that Jobs’ infamously volatile temperament may have had lasting effects on some of his former staff.

“Not everybody, but there are some people – and one of them is in the film, who is clearly both deeply inspired by him and also broken by him,” he said.

“It cost him his marriage, it cost him his kids. Because people worked very, very hard [for him]. It could be quite a ruthless environment. He could be extraordinarily charming and inspirational and utterly brutal and you never knew which one was going to show up.

“By the end I think you see that Apple actually was a company that – particularly under Jobs – was pretty ruthless in the way it dealt with its workers, with the environment, with local laws.”

The biopic of the Apple founder ‘Steve Jobs’ is currently in production, with Danny Boyle behind the camera and Michael Fassbender playing Jobs.
