Christopher Nolan Doesn’t Rule Out Superhero Return, Was Wanted For Justice League

Christopher Nolan has admitted that he could still return to the superhero genre one day.

Nolan is primarily remembered for his sterling work on ‘The Dark Knight’ saga, and while he was out promoting his upcoming sci-fi extravaganza, ‘Interstellar,’ Timeout asked him if he could ever imagine himself returning to the comic-book world.

While he admitted that he finds “it hard to imagine returning to it” the ‘Batman Begins’ director did end with the ultimate tease as he declared, “But never say never.”

However he was still adamant that having spent so long working on the genre a return isn’t at the forefront of his mind right now. “I think I had a great experience with the superhero genre and got to explore a lot of thing. But it was a good decade of my life and I find it hard to imagine returning to it,” he explained.

It sounds as if Nolan has had plenty of opportunities to return to the superhero world too. The Wall Street Journal have alleged that they were so insistent that the filmmaker produce either ‘Justice League’ or a ‘Batman’ reboot that they waited for months to actually proceed with the expansion of their DC movie universe.

After waiting for Nolan to change his mind they eventually decided to move on and hired Zack Snyder to direct ‘Man Of Steel’, which Nolan agreed to produce. Now the ‘300’ filmmaker has been placed in control of directing ‘Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice’, ‘Justice League Pt. 1’ and ‘Justice League Pt. 2’ too, and his is the vision that will dictate where DC’s burgeoning universe goes.

While there is no denying Snyder’s blockbuster credentials, it’s hard not to be saddened by the fact that Nolan could have been heavily involved the future sequels to ‘Man Of Steel’.  Snyder has never matched the complexity of Nolan’s work, and the British director could have helped to guide his peer into a more nuanced yet still spectacular cinematic area.

Let’s hope that, despite Nolan’s absence, Snyder will manage to do just that with his future instalments to DC’s universe though.
