Distributor Diamond Films Mexico said Mexico City’s civil protection agency ordered it to suspend the event, scheduled for a Mexico City shopping mall. The reason? An unexpected large number of fans who turned out to see Radcliffe prior to the event.

"We appreciate the response and enthusiasm for this event," Diamond Films said. "Sorry but this decision is out of our control."

The event organizer said the rom-com ‘What If’ will have its Mexico premiere Thursday evening, but without the red carpet treatment.

What If, directed by Michael Dowse and also starring Zoe Kazan, is being released in the UK on 20 August, 2014.
