Domhnall Gleeson Talks Star Wars VII Secrecy

Although recent ‘Star Wars’ leaks seem to have blown ‘Episode VII’ wide open, Domhnall Gleeson claims that security was tight on ‘The Force Awakens’.

It’s been one leak after another as ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ has seen concept art and behind-the-scenes photographs leaked to the general public. But while it looks as though the film has suffered a major breach of security, ‘Star Wars’ star Domhnall Gleeson explains that everything was kept tightly under wraps.

During an interview with the Radio Times, the 31-year-old Irish actor explained that it’s the most secretive film he’s ever worked on…

“I would say it’s the most secrecy I’ve had to work with, just because you have to sign so many things,” he said. “I don’t even talk about it – I’m not even afraid I’ll let anything slip anymore, I’m just aware that it’s actually boring, because I know the answer is I can’t talk about it.”

Of course, we’ve become very used to ‘Star Wars VII’ stars being unable to talk about the movie… especially after Harrison Ford’s many, many denials that he was even in the movie at all.

But while the actors were keen to keep things under wraps, J.J. Abrams admits that it wasn’t as easy as it sounds.

“We can’t keep everything secret, obviously,” he told USA Today. “We do the best we can to keep things as limited in distribution — scripts and things like that. What you’d expect.”

Unfortunately, the production has seen numerous leaks over the course of filming and beyond… and with concept art and plot summaries surfacing on some of the most popular ‘Star Wars’ fan sites, we have to wonder how much of this is accurate.

And it begs the question – was the secrecy and security surrounding the production really worth it?

Of course, we won’t know how much of the rumours are accurate until the film is released at the end of the year. So for now, we’ll have to wait and see. But it looks as though J.J. Abrams may have bitten off more than he can chew.

‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ heads to cinemas on 18 December 2015.
