Edgar Wright’s Diminished ‘Ant-Man’ Credit Revealed

The release of the first trailer for ‘Ant-Man’ earlier this week revealed Edgar Wright’s diminished credit for the Marvel blockbuster.

It turns out that Wright doesn’t receive a screenplay credit for ‘Ant-Man’, however he has indeed been given a “story by” credit while he has also been named as an executive producer too.

For the uninitiated Edgar Wright had previously been developing ‘Ant-Man’ with Marvel Studios since 2006. By 2011, alongside his co-writer, Joe Cornish, Wright had completed three drafts of the film and had even shot test footage too.

However Marvel and Wright hit creative issues over the next few years. And after the studio were bought by Disney Marvel president Kevin Feige took more creative control of their films so that each instalment would sync up perfectly with Marvel’s cinematic universe.

This diminished Edgar Wright’s impact on the blockbuster, which ultimately led to Peyton Reed and Adam McKay being brought in as ‘Ant-Man’s’ new director and writer respectively.

It was previously speculated that McKay, alongside Paul Rudd, who also shares a screenwriting credit with the ‘Anchorman’ director, would adjust Wright’s script. However it’s now clear that he did a full rewrite of ‘Ant-Man’.

Despite the fact he has both an executive producer and story by credit, it’s unlikely that viewers will be able to spot Edgar Wright’s impact on ‘Ant-Man’.

We’ll have to wait and see if any of the ‘Shaun of the Dead’ director’s traits sneak into ‘Ant-Man’ when it hits UK cinemas on Friday July 17 2015.
