Ewan McGregor: Some Of The Star Wars Fans I Meet Are 'Lowlifes'

Ewan McGregor has some pretty strong opinions on the type of Star Wars enthusiast he encounters.

Known for their fanaticism, the Scottish star of the prequel trilogy let rip in no uncertain terms on what he thinks of them in a recent exchange with US magazine Details.

Asked what his experience with the fanbase has involved, he replied: “I don’t have any experience with them. I’ve never been to one of the conventions.

"The people I meet are the f**kers who want me to sign Star Wars photos so they can sell them on the Internet or the people at premieres who are crushing children against barriers to get me to sign their f**king picture of Obi-Wan Kenobi.

"They’re not fans—they’re parasitical lowlifes and f**king w*nkers.

McGregor added that he also understands the criticism levelled at ‘Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace’.

In fact, he admitted to have only seen the film once – at its premiere – and appreciates that the first of these films didn’t match up with fan expectation.

He said: “I watched it once, at the premiere, so I’m not in a good position to judge. They had a tall order, the three films did.

"The fans waited so long and wanted to feel like they did when they watched the first film, but they were grown-ups by that time.

“I don’t mind the criticism. I’ve heard it to my face.”

Despite the widespread ill-feeling towards the prequel trilogy, most agreed that McGregor was great as a young Kenobi.

The 43-year-old actor has been rumoured to return to the role as Obi-Wan in one of the planned ‘Star Wars’ spin-off movies, though has been no concrete evidence to suggest the rumours are true.

The last ‘Star Wars’ movie, ‘Episode III – Revenge of the Sith’ was released in 2005. The next, ‘Episode VII’ is being directed by JJ Abrams and will be released on 18 December 2015.
