Guardians Of The Galaxy 2: Will Groot Be Dead?

James Gunn has been discussing the upcoming sequel to ‘Guardians Of The Galaxy’, and he’s teased that Groot might have died at the end of the original.

The writer and director made these remarks during a recent live commentary for ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ that he held on Facebook. In fact Gunn was inundated with questions, which led him to make several declarations regarding the follow-up.

After the apparent resurrection of Groot at the end of ‘Guardians Of The Galaxy’, Gunn took to Facebook to write, “ Well, who says baby Groot is Groot and not Groot’s son. He might be dead.”

At the end of ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’, Groot sacrifices himself in order to save Star-Lord, Drax the Destroyer, Gamora and Rocket as the Dark Aster lands on Xander.

However, after the death of Ronan the Destroyer, Rocket Racoon gathers up the remaining shrubs that were previously Groot and places them back into a plant pot. We then see a baby Groot dancing during the credits sequence to prove that he is back on the road to recovery.

James Gunn has previously insinuated that Baby Groot isn’t actually a resurrected Groot, and is instead Groot’s “progeny”. Either way, it doesn’t really matter which version of Groot ends up in ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’.

Vin Diesel will still be asked to reprise his monosyllabic role, which saw the actor repeat the phrase “I am Groot” throughout the film.

And even if he is playing a younger version of Groot it will almost certainly possess the exact same traits as his performance in ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’. It will hopefully be just as superb too.

‘Guardians of the Galaxy 2’ will be released on May 5, 2017.
