Jim Parsons Wants To Play The Riddler

It looks as though Jim Parsons doesn’t share Sheldon Cooper’s affinity for The Flash… as he reveals he’d rather play a DC villain on the big screen.

During an interview with MTV News, the 41-year-old star of ‘The Big Bang Theory’ revealed that he’d love to star as The Riddler in an upcoming DC movie.

“I would love to play a superhero in a movie,” he said. “I would like to be a villain. And… I would really like to play The Riddler. I don’t feel they’re using the Riddler very much, are they?”

Of course, The Riddler’s last big screen outing was in the 1995 cheese-fest, ‘Batman Forever’ – a film which featured Jim Carey in the role of the Riddler, alongside Tommy Lee Jones as Two-Face.

But while Jim Parsons’ take on the Riddler would likely be a less-wacky affair, I can’t help thinking that good old Edward Nygma is a bit too whimsical for the current DC universe. I mean, let’s face it – everything we’ve seen so far points towards gritty realism… and a villain with a penchant for rhymes and riddles would probably undermine that.

Unless they go the ‘Gotham’ route…

Featuring Cory Michael Smith as a more grounded version of the Riddler, ‘Gotham’ paints a far more realistic version of the classic villain – using the oddball image to create a socially awkward persona for a brilliant (yet very odd) forensic scientist.

Could this be a better direction for a big screen Riddler?

I can’t help thinking that it’s likely to be some time before we see him alongside the rest of Batman’s rogue’s gallery. But will Jim Parsons get the chance to portray him? For now, we have to wait and see.

But don’t hold your breath.
