‘Frozen’ star Josh Gad has officially joined the cast of Disney’s upcoming ‘Beauty and the Beast’ adaptation.

Disney’s plans for a live-action version of the 1991 animated classic are well underway, with Gad — the voice of loveable snowman Olaf in ‘Frozen’ — the latest big name to board the feature that’s due out in 2016.

Gad, who is the first American to join the production, now joins Brits Emma Watson as Belle, Dan Stevens a Beast, and Luke Evans as the dastardly Gaston.

The ‘Frozen’ star will plat Le Fou, the familiar sidekick to Gaston, which was a character created specifically for the hit movie.

Based on the French tale ‘Beauty’, Disney adapted the story into a film that was a worldwide success, taking almost half a billion dollars during its theatrical run in the early ‘90s.

‘Beauty and the Beast’ is the latest in a long line of Disney live-action adaptations based on one of their former animated movies, with ‘Alice in Wonderland’, ‘Maleficent’, and ‘Cinderella’ all having had theatrical releases (with the latter just out in the US).

So far, the trend of such adaptations are a popular choice for the studio as well as audiences. Those already out there have done extremely well, with ‘Alice in Wonderland’ tipping the billion dollar mark and ‘Maleficent’ scooping over $750 million just last year, so it’s no surprise that ‘The Little Mermaid’ is also currently in the works.

‘Beauty and the Beast’ is directed by Bill Condon and is in cinemas in 2016.
