Keanu Reeves & Jim Carrey Join Cannibal Romance The Bad Batch

Writer-director Ana Lily Amirpour’s ‘The Bad Batch’ was already a film we were curious and excited about thanks to its bizarre-sounding premise - a love story involving cannibals in a ‘Mad Max’-esque post-apocalyptic wasteland - and the casting of Jason Momoa, who seems ideally suited to something so potentially crazy.

Now, ‘The Bad Batch’ just got a whole lot bigger and even more intriguing, as it has been announced that two bona fide movie megastars have joined the cast in Keanu Reeves and Jim Carrey.

The Wrap report that Reeves has signed on to star as a character described only as ‘The Dream,’ whilst Carrey will portray ‘The Hermit.’ It is also announced that Suki Waterhouse will play the female lead Arlen, and Diego Luna will also co-star.

Momoa takes the lead as another enigmatically-named figure The Miami Man, and as Amirpour has previously declared, the film centres on “a muscled cannibal breaks the rule ‘don’t play with your food.’”

As if that doesn’t sound quite off-the-wall enough, Amirpour also describes the film as “‘Road Warrior’ meets ‘Pretty in Pink’ with a dope soundtrack.”

‘The Bad Batch’ will be the second full-length film  from Iranian-American writer-director Ana Lily Amapour, following her 2014 feature debut, vampire movie ‘A Girl Walks Home Alone At Night.’

For Keanu Reeves, the film would seem to mark another step on his indie-oriented career resurgence following last year’s unexpected hit action thriller ‘John Wick’ (which finally opens in the UK on 10 April), and the upcoming Eli Roth horror ‘Knock Knock.’ He is also set to appear in Nicolas Winding Refn’s ‘The Neon Demon,’ which promises to be an unconventional horror film

Jim Carrey, meanwhile, was last seen in 2014 sequel ‘Dumb and Dumber To.’ Prior to this, he made headlines for pulling out of promotional duties on ‘Kick-Ass 2′ over concerns about the film’s violence. This perhaps makes his decision to join ‘The Bad Batch’ that bit more unexpected, as we would assume a post-apocalyptic cannibal movie is likely to have its fair share of violent content.

‘The Bad Batch’ will be produced by Megan Ellison of Annapurna Pictures and Vice’s Danny Gabai and Sina Sayyah.  No production start date or release dates have been announced yet.
