Obi-Wan To Get His Own Star Wars Spin-Off?

It looks as though rumours of an Obi-Wan Kenobi spin-off are more powerful than you can possibly imagine… as Ewan McGregor is now rumoured for a potential ‘Star Wars’ film.

According to Schmoes Know, the 44-year-old ‘Star Wars’ prequel star has been linked to a trilogy of new Obi-Wan spin-off movies.

“Word around the halls is that Disney is in negotiations with Ewan McGregor for an unknown project,” they revealed. “But from a source commenting on some of the more interesting conversations happening behind closed doors, it’s for McGregor to once again transform into the venerable Jedi Master, Obi-Wan Kenobi.”

Of course, McGregor originally took over the role from Sir Alec Guinness in the ‘Star Wars’ prequel, ‘The Phantom Menace’. And while taking over from such a legendary actor was no small task, it seems he managed to win over the fans… even if the films themselves weren’t that good.

But this isn’t the first time we’ve heard McGregor linked to a ‘Star Wars’ spin-off.

In fact, ever since the spin-off movies were first announced, we’ve heard rumblings that Lucasfilm were keen to get Ewan McGregor back. And now it seems we may have some further details about what that might entail.

“According to this source, Disney has been courting Ewan McGregor ‘not to be a force ghost, but for a post-Episode III Kenobi’,” they reveal. “They’ve heard from multiple people that Disney wants an Obi-Wan Kenobi trilogy of films, outside of the Anthology series.”

And that’s where things get interesting.

Even after the prequel trilogy, Obi-Wan Kenobi has continued to appear in the likes of the ‘Clone Wars’ cartoon series as well as the more recent ‘Star Wars Rebels’. It’s obvious that the Jedi master is quite a popular character… and with Kenobi hiding away after the events of ‘Episode III’, there’s potentially a lot more story to tell.

And with Darth maul apparently surviving his ‘death’ in ‘The Phantom Menace’, we might even see the return of the greatest villain of the prequel trilogy.

Of course, for now we’ll have to wait and see… and until confirmed by Lucasfilm, this should be taken with a pinch of salt. But it certainly opens up some incredible possibilities.
