Star Wars 7: The Force Awakens Could Feature A New Jedi Order

After the events of ‘Return of the Jedi’, Luke Skywalker is believed to be the last Jedi in the galaxy far, far away. But has he established a new Jedi Order by ‘Star Wars VII’?

According to BBC reporter Lizo Mzimba, some new ‘Star Wars VII’ casting details have been revealed… and they seem to hint towards a new Jedi Order.

“Bit more @StarWars VII casting.,” he said via Twitter. “According to their official CVs on @SpotlightUK Sam Carr plays a Padawan. Also according to @SpotlightUK James McArdle plays character called Xavier.”

A quick look at Sam Carr’s CV reveals that he’s previously starred alongside Harrison Ford in the 2013 sci-fi film, ‘Ender’s Game’ and is indeed listed as playing a ‘Padawan’ in ‘Star Wars VII’.

But what does this mean for the Jedi Order?

By the end of ‘Return of the Jedi’ it’s firmly established that Luke Skywalker is the last of the Jedi. And after the death of both Obi-Wan and Yoda during the original trilogy, it seems that he is the only one left to continue the old ways… and presumably rebuild that hokey religion.

Of course, at this stage we don’t know for certain.

Although Carr’s listing as a Padawan is a good hint that the order will be rebuilt, it’s also been rumoured that ‘Star Wars VII’ will be the first of the saga to include flashbacks… and this could be where these new characters appear.

Interestingly, these new characters are likely to be minor supporting roles… and the fact that Sam Carr’s Padawan goes un-named could hint to the fact that there’s more than one of them. Of course, for now we’ll just have to wait and see. But it certainly promising news for fans of the Jedi Order.

And let’s face it – if Luke has re-established the religion, this might just debunk rumours of a villainous role for Luke in the sequel trilogy. Either way, for now we’ll have to wait and see. But the Force may have already awakened long before ‘Star Wars VII’.

‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ heads to cinemas on 18 December 2015.
