Star Wars: Episode VII: Oscar Isaac Teases “Hundreds of Stormtroopers”

We already know that ‘Star Wars: Episode 7’ is going to feature Stormtroopers in some capacity, we’ve even had a sneak peek at the new helmet design thanks to a leaked photo, but now we know they’re going to appear in force thanks to a new interview with cast member Oscar Isaac.

The actor, whose role in the film is still unconfirmed, told Entertainment Weekly, “[JJ Abrams is] shooting on film and actually building the sets, so you’ve got hundreds of Stormtroopers or whatever, and hundreds of extras and all the ships.”

We’ve seen a lot of evidence to support the claim that ‘Star Wars 7’ will feature a lot of practical special effects over the last few weeks, including this amazing video of the Millennium Falcon.

One thing that has yet to be confirmed however, is a shred of detail about the film’s actual plot.

Isaac, trying his best not to dish any major spoilers, did reveal that his character does share scenes with the original trio of Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, and Mark Hamill.

"Carrie is hilarious and doing such cool work. Harrison is back. He went on hiatus for a little while, but he’s 150 per cent back. It’s pretty amazing to see him bounce back. He looks incredible.

"Everyone’s having a really good time. J.J. sets that tone. There’s a lot of enthusiasm and it’s being done with a lot of heart. There’s nothing cynical about the way we’re doing this.”

The film picks up the story of the saga 30 years after the events of ‘Return of the Jedi’, with Ford, Fisher, and Hamill playing older versions of Han, Leia, and Luke. One thing that Isaac says will be getting an update though, is the dialogue.

"What they’re trying to do and what’s really great is J.J.’s been loosening it up a little bit and trying to make it alive and energized. It’s not formal,” explained the star who was promoting his new film ’The Two Faces of January’.

"They’re messy, energized people. We’ve all intentionally tried to do that. Just make it a little more fiery and messy."

The actor, who garnered a ton of critical acclaim last year for his role in the Coen brothers’ ‘Inside Llewyn Davis’, paid tribute to Ridley Scott for giving him his big breakthrough in 2010’s ‘Robin Hood’.

"A personal game-changer was when Ridley Scott cast me as King John, the King of England, for ‘Robin Hood’. Being someone who grew up in Miami and had Latin origins? That, for me, was a big one.

"He was bold enough to cast me so against type in that way. That gave me a lot of confidence. It was a huge thing.”

‘Star Wars: Episode VII’ is coming to cinemas on 18 December, 2015, and ‘The Two Faces of January’ is out now on DVD, Blu-ray, and VOD.
