Star Wars 7 Trailer: Sorry Benedict Cumberbatch Fans, Andy Serkis Confirms He Is Villainous Voiceover

Andy Serkis has confirmed that his is the ominous voice heard in the teaser trailer for ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’.

The owner of the voice had been a source of rampant speculation following the trailer’s debut last week, with many believing it be Benedict Cumberbatch. However reports quickly quashed the rumour and suggested it was Serkis.

Serkis confirmed it at the London premiere of ‘The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies’ when asked by Absolute Radio.

This confirms he will be portraying a villain in the JJ Abrams-directed sequel, but little else is known about his character and Serkis wasn’t going to let slip any more.

Asked who he would be playing the 50-year-old actor succinctly said: “I can’t tell you that.”

2015 will be a busy year for Serkis, who has a small role in ‘Avengers: Age of Ultron’ to go with his ‘Star Wars’ part. He will also be directing ‘Jungle Book: Origins’ for a 2016 release.

Serkis is one of numerous new additions to the franchise, including leading trio John Boyega, Daisy Risley and Oscar Isaac, as well as Adam Driver, Max von Sydow, Domhnall Gleeson, Lupita Nyong’o and Gwendoline Christie.

Mark Hamill, Harrison Ford and Carrie Fisher will also reprise their iconic roles.

‘Star Wars: Episode 7 – The Force Awakens’ will be released in cinemas fon 18 December 2015.
