Star Wars: Rogue One Hires Oscar-Winning Composer

LucasFilm has hired Oscar winner Alexandre Desplat to provide the score for Gareth Edwards’ 2016 ‘Star Wars’ spin-off ‘Star Wars: Rogue One’.

Desplat won the Academy Award for Best Original Score earlier this year for his soundtrack for Wes Anderson’s ‘The Grand Budapest Hotel’. He was also nominated for his work on Alan Turing biopic ‘The Imitation Game’.

The French composer revealed the news in an interview with French station Radio Classique’s Culture Club (via Film Music Reporter) that he will be reuniting with director Edwards after their work together on last year’s ‘Godzilla’ remake.

'Rogue One' was revealed as the spin-off film's title last week. 'The Theory of Everything's Felicity Jones will be its star, working from the script by Gary Whitta and Chris Weitz, who joined the project after Whitta's departure last year.

Desplat is one of the most celebrated film composers currently working. He had been Oscar-nominated six times prior to his doubt nomination this year, for such films as ‘The Queen’, ‘Fantastic Mr Fox’, ‘The King’s Speech’ and ‘Argo’.

Details regarding ‘Star Wars: Rogue One’ are thin on the ground at the moment, but we do know the film will be released on 16 December, 2016.
