Stunning Star Wars 7 Art Fools Fan Sites

‘Star Wars’ artist Robert Bailey has unveiled some cool new art based on ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’… and it’s now being confused for official concept art.

It’s no secret that plenty of ‘Star Wars VII’ concept art has been leaked over the past few months. We’ve seen images and descriptions of these pieces popping up all over the internet, but now some new drawings by officially licensed ‘Star Wars’ artist Robert Bailey are causing quite a stir.

Could they be our first look at some official ‘Star Wars VII’ concept art? In a word, no…

I caught up with artist Robert Bailey to ask him about these rather impressive drawings… but it seems they’re not ‘Star Wars VII’ concept art pieces after all.

“These are definitely not concept drawings from the next ‘Star Wars’ movie,” he told me. “They are based upon the ‘Star Wars’ trailer, which as you know is in the public arena. I can fully understand how these rumours start, and that fans are very excited about the upcoming film. But Lucasfilm would not allow the release of concept fames at this time.”

Of course, various ‘Star Wars’ fan sites were keen to consider these pieces to be concept art. And it’s not surprising really, considering the lack of official artwork so far. And then there’s a comment Robert made during an interview with 2013.

During an interview with The World Goes Pop, Robert suggested that he’d be open to the possibility of working on the upcoming ‘Star Wars’ sequels. After all, he’s provided concept art for other movies, why not this one?

“Maybe Kathleen Kennedy will surprise me,” he said. “If she phones me to do the storyboarding, which I have done for other movies, I would be glad to storyboard for the next Star Wars movie.”

Unfortunately, that’s not what happened here, and the artworks that appear on Robert Bailey’s Facebook Page are merely the product of a keen eye for detail after these scenes appeared in the recent ‘Star Wars VII’ teaser trailer.

Either way, those are some rather amazing sketches of the all-new X-Wing… and you have to hand it to Robert – he really knows his way around the craft. But sadly, we’ll have to wait for that official ‘Star Wars VII’ concept art.

‘Star Wars VII’ heads to cinemas on 18 December 2015.
